Congratulations to City Clerk Lakesha Shannon, the 2022 City of Marion Employee of the Year! Mayor Brady honored Lakesha at the City’s Annual Employee Awards Banquet on Monday, March 27. As the City Clerk, Lakesha keeps all official municipal records and documents, attends all regular and special meetings of City Council, and prepares agendas, committee meeting notices, minutes, and public hearing notices.

Last year, the SC Business License Tax Standardization Act, Act 176, streamlined the business license process, creating the same process for taxing jurisdictions across the state. This law required all of South Carolina’s cities and towns to standardize their business license practices. The transition from our previous license year and classification codes to the new standard dates and NAICS codes, and to the new online payment portal, was an extensive project. Lakesha worked diligently to ensure all the steps were completed before the state deadlines and communicated the changes to our local businesses and contractors.

In addition to her duties as our municipal clerk and business license administrator, Lakesha coordinates and makes the necessary arrangements for meetings, special programs, and City events throughout the year. The quality of her work is exceptional, and Lakesha gets along well with everyone. She is always professional and always friendly. If you’ve visited City Hall, you’ve probably been greeted with a warm smile from Lakesha.
