Public Works Department

Building Maintenance Technician

The City of Marion is accepting applications for a full-time Building Maintenance Technician. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of City-owned buildings, facilities, grounds, and related equipment. The successful candidate will take pride in maintaining safe, clean, and functional facilities that serve City employees and the public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs to City buildings and facilities.
• Complete general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall, flooring, and minor HVAC repairs.
• Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and identify needed repairs.
• Install and repair doors, locks, windows, fixtures, ceiling tiles, and other building components.
• Maintain sidewalks, parking areas, fences, and exterior building features.
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, stages, and equipment for City meetings and special events.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and light construction equipment safely.
• Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner and maintain accurate records of completed work.
• Assist other City departments with maintenance-related projects as assigned.
• Participate in after-hours emergency response during severe weather or other City emergencies when needed.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Experience in one or more building trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or general maintenance, preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work in indoor and outdoor environments during varying weather conditions.

Marion Police Department

Class I Officer - Patrol

Under regular supervision, performs uniform patrol duties, including responding to various types of calls, patrolling assigned areas, performing investigative operations, serving warrants, and performing other general law enforcement duties. Marion Fire Department

Firefighter / Engineer

The Marion Fire Department is accepting applications for a Career Firefighter. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, and have a valid SC driver’s license. In addition, applicants must be Firefighter II certified or willing to attend the SCFA recruit school. All qualified applicants will pass a written exam, a physical agility test, and an interview. Applicants selected for hire will also have to pass a SLED background check, drug test, and a medical physical as a condition of employment. The Firefighter will, under general supervision, respond to fire and other emergency calls and perform a wide variety of duties related to fire suppression to ensure public safety and welfare. The candidate must exercise sound judgment and safety precautions in all activities and work under stressful, high-risk conditions.

Public Works Department

Heavy Equipment Operator - CDL Required

The City of Marion is seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Public Works team. This position is based primarily at the City’s compost site and is responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery, including bulldozers, loaders, and excavators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with city and state regulations
  • Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment
  • Assist with other Public Works service maintenance tasks (landscaping, collection and transport of debris, stormwater system maintenance, etc.) as needed

Qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
