The City of Marion Public Works Department keeps the City clean, well-maintained, and looking its absolute best for our citizens and visitors. Their responsibilities include maintaining public areas, green spaces, and primary road rights of way and medians.

The Public Works Department cares for the City’s trees, garnering many Palmetto Pride Tree Grants, which supply the City with free trees to continue our beautiful green canopy for years. Additionally, the crews work with the City’s Garden Clubs to plant and maintain flower and shrubbery beds, enhancing the streets and providing beauty throughout the seasons in Marion. The Public Works Department also decorates the City for its numerous festivals and special events, helping showcase the City at Christmas, Spring, and beyond.

The City of Marion repairs and maintains storm drains on city rights-of-ways.

Storm drains, also called catch basins, are essential during storms and heavy rain events. When storm drains get clogged with leaves, pine straw, and other debris, water can no longer be drained from the street. This can cause water to pond along our streets and may lead to flooded roadways, intersections, and homes. Therefore, monitoring and cleaning catch basins is important to prevent street flooding and property damage.

When cleaning your yard, sidewalk, or driveway, please do not rake or blow leaves and grass clippings from your yard into the street and remember to place yard debris piles for curbside pickup away from any storm drains. Please inspect the storm drain in front of your house or business. If needed, use a rake to clear leaves, limbs, and any other debris from the top of the grate…but please do not attempt to remove the grate.

To report a clogged or damaged catch basin, please call City Hall at 843-423-5961.

Removal of Residential brush, limbs, furniture, appliances, etc.:

Normal seasonal trimmings such as tree limb cuttings, shrubbery, and other yard debris will be collected by the City so long as it meets the following conditions:

  • Yard debris must be cut not more than 6 inches in diameter and 6 feet long and placed on the front corner of the owner’s or resident’s property near the street.
  • If a commercial tree cutter or landscape contractor does the work, the contractor is responsible for removing the limbs, cuttings, shrubbery, etc. No contractor debris will be picked up.
  • If the yard debris does not meet these criteria, it will not be picked up by the City.

Per DHEC regulations, City employees no longer pick up tires or televisions for health and safety reasons. Instead, homeowners must dispose of unwanted tires and televisions at the Palmetto Hardwood Recycling Center on Senator Gasque Road.

Appliances and furniture items must be picked up separately and cannot be mixed. Pick-up is from curbside only. Please do not place objects on water meters.

The City is not responsible for property damage.

Rates vary based on dumpster size and frequency of pick-ups.

For more information on dumpster rates or to schedule a new service, please get in touch with Ashley Allison at City Hall at 843-423-5961.
