Unveiled on October 21, 1903, the Confederate Monument cost $2,300 to cast and build.
The seven-foot bronze replica of a Confederate soldier features his blanket strapped across his shoulders, his haversack at his side, his musket at rest, and he is facing the north.
The statue was cast by the American Bronze Foundry Company of Chicago, Illinois, and stands on a 22-foot Winnsboro blue granite base.
The monument was originally placed in the intersection of Godbold and Main Streets; however, in January 1952, it was moved to its present location to make way for new traffic lights.
The money for the monument was raised by private donations through the Ladies Monument Association, of which Mrs. C. A. Woods was the president and the local chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy.
