The one-story brick passenger station is typical of the architectural style used for the early small-town station.
A slate roof with an overhang is supported by decorative brackets. The windows have stone lintels and sills.
The City of Marion now owns the building which houses the Marion Chamber of Commerce office.
The present structure was built in 1908, replacing the original wood frame structure. The brick freight station constructed in 1888 was torn down in 1976.
The first railroad through Marion was the Wilmington and Manchester, which was completed in 1854. General W.W. Harllee, the first president and one of the organizers, was a resident of Marion at that time.
The Depot was remodeled by the City of Marion during 2004-2005 and is dedicated to Mr. Frederick T. Zeman, Sr., for his longtime service and dedication to the City of Marion and Marion County.
